Figma Pricing in 2026: What a Seat Actually Costs (and Where the Number Comes From)

Somewhere in your finance review there is a line called design tools, and the number on it has quietly moved twice since you last read it. The first move arrived with a renewal, not with an announcement addressed to you. The second one does not touch the seat price at all, which is exactly why nobody flagged it. If you sign off on software spend, you have already been asked why it went up. So which of those two increases are you actually paying for? The answer is on the vendor's own pricing page, and that page is not the one your team finds first.
Figma has raised the price of its Full seat exactly once. The increase took effect on March 11, 2025, and the company's own SEC filing sizes it at 20% to 33% depending on your plan and how you pay. That is the event the threads people keep landing on are reacting to. On top of it, a second charge has been building on accounts since March 2026, and it lands on a line that has nothing to do with seats. Both are documented in Figma's own paperwork, and neither is visible in the search results your team reads.
What one Figma seat actually costs in 2026
In one line: on Professional, a Full seat costs $16 per month billed annually or $20 billed monthly. A Dev seat is $12 or $15, and a Collab seat is $3 or $5. Organization moves those three numbers to $55, $25 and $5, and Enterprise to $90, $35 and $5. A View seat costs nothing on any paid plan.
Plan | Full seat | Dev seat | Collab seat | Billing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Starter (free) | $0 | not offered | not offered | free tier |
Professional | $16 annual / $20 monthly | $12 annual / $15 monthly | $3 annual / $5 monthly | monthly or annual |
Organization | $55 | $25 | $5 | annual only |
Enterprise | $90 | $35 | $5 | annual only |
Prices verified 2026-10-07. Prices as of October 2026. Every figure above comes from Figma's own pricing page, read live on 2026-10-07.
Three details change what you actually pay. Organization and Enterprise publish no monthly option, so their per-month figure is an annual commitment divided by twelve. AI credits are a second allowance per seat, from 3,000 a month on a Professional Full seat to 4,250 on Enterprise, while every other seat and every Starter user gets 500 with a 150 credit daily cap on Starter and View seats (Figma pricing FAQ, read 2026-10-07). And products are not sold separately: the FAQ states you cannot buy Figma Design on its own, so anyone who needs to design needs a Full seat inside a plan.
What a team of 3, 10 and 50 actually pays

These totals are our calculation, derived from the verified list prices above rather than quoted from the vendor. Method: annual billing, list price, no tax, no discount and no AI credit top-up, with rosters stated so you can re-run the math.
Team shape | Roster | Monthly (our calculation) | Annual (our calculation) |
|---|---|---|---|
3-seat design team | 3 x Full, Professional | $48 | $576 |
10-seat product team | 7 x Full + 3 x Dev, Professional | $148 | $1,776 |
50-seat organization | 35 x Full + 10 x Dev + 5 x Collab, Organization | $2,200 | $26,400 |
Now run the identical 50-seat roster through Professional: 35 x $16, plus 10 x $12, plus 5 x $3 comes to $695 a month, or $8,340 a year. Same people, same seat types, same work. The plan level alone costs about $18,060 more per year (our calculation), and none of the Figma price rundowns above this page makes that comparison.
Seat mix is the other number to watch. On Organization, moving one person from a Collab seat to a Full seat moves their line from $5 to $55. On Professional the same move is $3 to $16. Figma bills access changes automatically and prompts the upgrade when a Dev or Collab seat holder starts editing a design file, so one click into the wrong file can move your invoice.
The three seats, and what a free viewer can already do
Most explanations of Figma pricing describe two seats, editors and viewers. That model predates March 2025 and no longer matches what you can buy. There are three paid seat types plus a free one, and the split decides your bill.
A Full seat gets full access to Figma Design, Make, Draw, Sites, Dev Mode, FigJam, Slides and Buzz. A Dev seat gets full access to Dev Mode, FigJam, Slides and Buzz, plus view and comment only inside design files; it cannot edit them. A Collab seat gets full access to FigJam, Slides and Buzz, view and comment in design files, and basic inspection on Dev Mode. A View seat is free on every paid plan and covers view and comment plus basic inspection: measurements, property values, CSS and iOS and Android copy, and asset export (Figma pricing FAQ, read 2026-10-07).
That last point kills a common buying assumption. A developer who only needs to read specifications does not need a Dev seat, because the vendor's own free viewer tier already includes measurements, code copy and export. If your handoffs are mostly about what this spacing is, you are paying $12 a month per developer for something you already have.
The 2025 seat increase, and the 2026 change that is not a seat increase

This is where most Figma price write-ups get the story wrong, so here are both events, dated and sourced.
March 11, 2025: the only Full-seat price increase Figma has ever made. The company's SEC filing states that Figma "increased the prices on our Full seat for the first time, ranging from 20% to 33%", effective March 11, 2025, rolling out across renewals.
Plan (per seat per month) | Before March 2025 | After March 2025 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
Professional monthly | $15 | $20 | +33.3% |
Professional annual | $12 | $16 | +33.3% |
Organization | $45 | $55 | +22.2% |
Enterprise | $75 | $90 | +20% |
Dev seat, Organization | $25 | $25 | no increase |
Dev seat, Enterprise | $35 | $35 | no increase |
Collab seat | did not exist | $5 | new seat type |
View seat | free (as "viewer") | free | unchanged |
Two things about that event matter to your bill and rarely get mentioned. Paid seats began to include FigJam and Figma Slides, so buyers started paying for products their teams may never open. And administrative approval became mandatory for every seat upgrade. Figma's filing gives its own reason: the changes were made "to keep pace with our expanded offerings and features since our platform's launch and to provide our customers with more visibility and upfront controls". No vendor source frames the increase as a consequence of the collapsed Adobe acquisition, however widely that story circulates.
Why the date is still misread. One r/userexperience thread, still showing on the first page of results and rendered as three years old, puts the increase at EUR 25 per developer seat per month and calls it "essentially a tenfold increase in price" for a team running one designer for every ten developers. Figma's filing dates the Full seat increase to March 11, 2025 and sizes it at 20% to 33%. Both describe the same March 2025 event, and EUR 25 is the thread's account, never a price on the vendor's page.
The 2026 event is a second meter, not a seat increase. Seat prices have not moved in 2026. What moved is how Figma meters AI usage.
Date | What changed | Source |
|---|---|---|
March 11, 2026 | AI credit subscription becomes available for purchase | Figma blog |
March 18, 2026 | Full seat credit limit enforcement begins | Figma forum staff reply |
Q2 2026 | Pay-as-you-go credit billing rolls out | Figma blog |
August 25, 2026 | Add-on credit amounts increased at the same cost: twice as many credits on Professional, 1.6x on Organization and Enterprise | Figma AI credit update |
Note the scope: enforcement applies to Full seats, and Figma's forum reply is explicit that Full seat limits started being enforced on March 18, 2026. Do not read it as every seat changing that day. Credits reset monthly, do not roll over and cannot be transferred.
The price shock is now a measured number. Figma's Q2 2026 results report revenue of $370.1M, up 48% year over year, and net dollar retention of 136%, up from 129%: a cohort already paying more than $10,000 a year now pays about 36% more than twelve months earlier. The same report counts 15,964 customers above $10,000 in annual recurring revenue, up 34%, and 1,635 above $100,000, up 46%. Figma also named the risk itself, listing among its risks that pricing changes, "including the planned enforcement of AI credit limits starting in March 2026", may "result in customer dissatisfaction" and "harm our brand" (Figma FY2025 annual report).
Users report their own burn rates, and those are individual accounts rather than vendor facts. One r/FigmaDesign user said they ended 3,000 company credits in about three hours. Another reported that a small interactive component took 120 credits to make and another 80 to fix.
Is Figma free? Where the free tier actually stops
Yes, and that is the wrong half of the question. The part worth checking is where the free tier stops, because that boundary is what generates the accidental charges.
The Starter plan is $0 with 500 AI credits a month and a 150 credit daily cap, and a View seat is free on every paid plan. Between them, viewing, commenting, measurements, property values, code copy and export are all covered. What the free tier does not reach is design work: Figma Design, Make, Draw, Sites and Dev Mode all require a paid seat, and team-level features start at Organization.
Search that question and the results are almost entirely user-support threads about billing confusion, with Figma's own forum holding nine of the top positions. Those threads are full of the phrase "billing and seat management is honestly confusing", attached to posts about being charged on a plan someone believed was free. The pattern is simple: a stakeholder opens a file, edits something, and the seat upgrades itself.
The costs that sit outside the seat price
The seat price is the visible line. Here is everything else, with its source.
AI credits are a second meter on top of every seat, enforced on Full seats since March 18, 2026. Top-up pricing is not published on the pricing page, and since August 2026 Figma shows add-on prices only inside the admin dashboard.
Governance+ is an Enterprise-only add-on, additional to the seat price, with no published price. It requires contacting sales (Figma pricing page, read 2026-10-07). It is the most expensive line item on the page and the only one without a figure next to it.
Features gated by plan level rather than by seat. Branching and merging, SSO and SAML, audit logs, org-wide libraries and design system analytics all require Organization or above, and Professional is limited to a single team. That is the mechanism behind the $8,340 versus $26,400 comparison earlier.
MCP and API rate limits scale by plan: 20 tool calls a month on the lowest tier, rising to 600 a day on Enterprise, while free viewers get 6 a month. A developer feeding designs into an AI coding tool hits that ceiling long before the seat price becomes the constraint.
Mid-year seat billing, which is counterintuitive. On Professional billed annually, a seat added mid-term is billed as a separate monthly subscription at the monthly price and keeps invoicing monthly unless you add it to the annual subscription or remove it (Figma pricing FAQ, read 2026-10-07). Adding a designer mid-year to an annual plan costs more per month than the plan's own headline price.
An independent cross-check, labelled as theirs. One third-party explainer puts Organization at $2,544 more per year than Professional at ten seats and the Enterprise premium over Organization at $8,700 a year at fifty seats. That is the publisher's calculation, not a vendor quote.
For the same exercise on a per-seat workspace tool, our Notion pricing breakdown walks the identical team sizes.
Figma versus the alternatives at the same budget
Every entry price below was verified 2026-10-07.
Tool | Entry price | Seat unit | What it means for your team |
|---|---|---|---|
Free $0; Pro $18 per month or $180 per year for one person; Business $25 per person per month | Per person; Pro is a single-person licence | A team needs Business, not Pro, so ten marketers is $250 a month. Nonprofits get a free team of up to 50 | |
Penpot | Self-hosted free indefinitely. Cloud free up to 8 people. Unlimited $7 per user per month, total bill capped at $175 per month | Per user, with a hard bill ceiling | The strongest fact here: headcount stops mattering at $175. Self-hosting runs on roughly $6 to $12 a month of VPS plus maintenance |
Sketch | Standard $12 per editor per month billed yearly; Professional $24; Enterprise $44; a $120 one-time Mac licence including a year of updates | Per editor, billed yearly | Mac only, which decides it for many teams before price does. Free viewers included |
Framer | Free $0; Basic $10 per month; Pro $30 per month; editor seats $20 per month; Content Editor seat $10 per month | Billed per site and per editor | A site builder rather than a UI design tool. On May 27, 2026 editor seats fell from $40 to $20, taking a 3-editor Pro team from $110 a month to $70 |
One tool is missing on purpose. Adobe XD is not a live option. It was discontinued as a purchasable single application on June 22, 2023, and sits in maintenance mode with bug and security fixes only. Its final release was 61.0.12 on June 1, 2026. Anyone recommending it as a cheaper alternative is recommending something four years out of date.
The framing is not the headline price. A Professional Full seat at $16 annual sits below Canva Business at $25 and Sketch Professional at $24, above Sketch Standard at $12, and above Penpot's capped $7 option. What separates Figma is structure: it bills a third seat type most of these tools do not have, and it meters AI on top of every seat.
If your evaluation goes beyond price, Canva alternatives covers the tool class your marketing team probably already pays for, our Canva review covers the limits of that licence model, Claude Design alternatives covers the newer entrants, and Claude Design vs Figma is the head-to-head between a prompt-driven tool and a professional design file.
When Figma is the wrong purchase
Figma is the right purchase for a product team with at least one designer, a real design system and developers who hand off through Dev Mode. At that shape the Dev seat at $12 is good value, and the seats you buy match the work.
It is the wrong purchase in four shapes I see often. If your design work is marketing assets rather than product interface, Canva Business at $25 per person does the job and the Figma seat goes unused. If you need a published site rather than a design file, Framer at $30 a month plus $20 per editor is the shorter path. If you are a Mac-only team doing single-discipline interface work, Sketch Standard at $12 is cheaper per head with free viewers included. And if headcount is your problem rather than features, Penpot Unlimited caps the whole bill at $175 a month, which for fifty people is the difference between $2,200 and $175.
The mistake to avoid is deciding on the headline seat price alone. The seat price is the part the vendor publishes. The plan level, the seat mix and the AI meter are where your invoice is actually decided, and all three are visible only if you go looking for them.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does Figma cost per seat?
On Professional a Full seat is $16 per month billed annually or $20 billed monthly, a Dev seat is $12 or $15, and a Collab seat is $3 or $5. On Organization those become $55, $25 and $5, and on Enterprise $90, $35 and $5. A View seat is free on every paid plan. Prices verified 2026-10-07 from Figma's pricing page.
Is Figma free?
There is a free Starter plan with 500 AI credits a month and a 150 credit daily cap, and a View seat is free on every paid plan. That covers viewing, commenting, measurements, code copy and export. It does not cover design work: Figma Design, Make, Draw, Sites and Dev Mode all need a paid seat.
Did Figma raise prices in 2026?
Not seat prices. The only Full-seat increase in Figma's history took effect on March 11, 2025 and is sized at 20% to 33% in the company's own SEC filing. What changed in 2026 is AI credit enforcement: Full seat credit limits began being enforced on March 18, 2026, and add-on credit allowances were increased at the same cost on August 25, 2026. Seat allowances were unchanged in both.
Do viewers need a paid seat?
No, and this is the most commonly missed saving. Figma's pricing FAQ states that free View seats include basic inspection: measurements, property values, CSS and iOS and Android copy, and asset export. A developer who only needs to read specifications does not need a Dev seat.
How much is Figma for a team of 10?
On Professional with seven Full seats and three Dev seats, $148 a month or $1,776 a year (our calculation, annual billing, no tax or top-up). The same roster on Organization costs $460 a month.
What is the difference between Figma Professional and Organization?
Professional is limited to a single team and costs $16 per Full seat billed annually. Organization costs $55 per Full seat, bills annually only, and adds what larger teams need: branching and merging, SSO and SAML, audit logs, org-wide libraries and design system analytics. On an identical 50-seat roster the plan level alone is about $18,060 a year more (our calculation).
